Life Is A Dream To Work On

Modern Greek Dance Sirtaki
Music: Mikis Theodorakis
Book: Novel by Nikos Kazantzakis
SuperStar: Antony Quinn

Zorba is described as the living heart, a large voracious mouth, a great brute soul, not yet severed from mother earth. The novel can be perceived as a vaccine against metaphysical thinking and it describes the contrast introduced by Friedrich Nietzsche between the Apollonian spirit of order and rationalityand the Dionysian outlook on life, and the Dionysian spirit which Zorba represents, the ecstatic, spontaneous will to live.

Lassally's Oscar is shown in Tavern Christiana in Stavros.

Quinn received the nomination for Best Leading Actor in a leading role and Michael Cacoyannis received three nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing, and Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

Hi BlueStar!

Antonny Quinn was one of the best actors at that time and one of the best ever in my mind.
Mikis Theodorakis who wrote the music is one of the best music compositors in the world.

Zorba the Greek 1964. Lila Kedrova is Madame Hortence, a faded glory, who "does not have the bugs" and can still put on, a scaled down, show. Lila won the Oscar award for best actress for Zorba.
In 1983, she did it all over again on Broadway in NYC, in the musical version of Zorba the Greek, winning both a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical and a Drama Desk Award.
Alan Bates is laughing with Madame and Anthony Quinn is consoling her: "no more boom, boom".
Walter Lassally won the Oscar for his cinematography. The great, Mikis Theodorakis wrote the music and Michael Cacoyannis directed. Based on a novel by the Greek literary giant Nikos Kazantzakis. Shot on the island of Crete.
